Refrigeration Capacity and EER Calculator Tool
HyCool team has developed an online performance calculator tool to predict the refrigeration capacity and energy efficiency ratio (EER) of the cascade HyCool chiller for a given industrial cooling process.
The tool is developed using statistical analysis based on the result of the experimental tests carried out in the CNR laboratories. It is validated only for the tested cascade chiller type: an adsorption unit employing silica gel/water as working pair and a compression chiller using R1270 as refrigerant. The evaporator circuit from the adsorption chiller supplies the cooling water circuit for the compression chiller.
You may access this tool from the following link: https://hycool-project.eu/eer-calculator/
You will be asked to select values for 3 characteristics:
- Inlet temperature of the hot water in the adsorption chiller (HT)
- Inlet temperature of the re-cooling water in the adsorption chiller (MT)
- Outlet temperature of the chilled water/glycol solution from the compression chiller (LT)
Once you submit your input values, refrigeration capacity and EER of the cascade HyCool chiller will be presented on the screen and sent to the provided email address.

Welcome to our quiz about the Refrigeration Capacity and EER Calculator Tool. This quiz requires a subscription (free user account) to the e-Learning platform www.waermepumpe-weiterbildung.at and full access to this course.
Click here to get your free user account and free full access to all our free courses.
Instructions:
- In order to find the correct answers, you need to use the web-based Refrigeration Capacity and EER Calculator Tool (click on the link to open the tool).
- Two questions require a numerical response, the other two questions are single-choice resp. multiple-choice questions.
- With the single-choice questions, only one of four possible answers is correct.
- The multiple-choice question counts with more than one correct answer - obviously ;-)
- No points are deducted for incorrectly answered questions.
- All questions are evenly scored with one point per correctly answered question.
- You can get immediate feedback on whether your answer is correct or not by clicking on the "Check" button.
- To proceed from one question to the next, click on the "Next page" button.
- The time is limited to ten minutes, after which time the quiz is closed and scored automatically.
- After finishing, click on the "Finish attempt ..."-button and then on the "Submit all and finish" button.
- Then, you get a review of all questions including the right answers as well as your Grade and Feedback.
- Don't worry, if your Grade is not the best. You can try the quiz as often as you want and improve from try to try.
Tipp: If you have problems with one question, answer the other questions first. If you still have time at the end, you can return to the unclear questions via the Quiz navigation box on the right side.
